DARK MATTERS

VIDEOWORK / VIDEOINSTALLATION / 20 min. 4k, 16:9, 5.1 ,

The night is well known and at the same time a unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable construct.
It surrounds us with all its aspects in a zone of darkness. In the work DARK MATTERS which is based
on interviews which where held with night watchmen from Tokio, Kabul, Moscow, Teheran, St. Louis,
Tirana, Yaoundè and Monterey.

“The Others are long gone. They fled and were not seen anymore [...] ”

We are in a void. It is broken by a faint light in the distance. We approach the light, which is slightly stronger,
but not intense, not radiant. We see a house, a cottage – it’s different, yet familiar.

A man stands in this room, in this light zone and stares out directly to us in the darkness. We can hear voices.
Voices with different languages. We follow him. He’s waiting for something to approach. He speaks with himself
and with the darkness that surrounds him and wants to penetrate into the room. He encounters within this never
ending night the various aspects of this zone, the fear and the hope, the fantasy and the abyss. Only a few things
appear as normal as they should be.

The night does not end, instead it gets even stranger will always be strange and strange and it seems no time.
